Illicit Performance started many moons ago with a small group of friends who liked to tinker with their cars, to learn how to make horsepower and get those cars to stick to the ground best at local autocrosses and track days. We were never satisfied with our cars for very long, and the modifications became more complex and more power was made at the wheels.

Since we started with turbocharged rotaries, the path to reliable power was expensive and littered with broken apex seals. To keep our cars alive, we learned how to use engine management to tune and perfect our rotaries under higher power levels. Once the engines gave out, we learned how to rebuild, how to port.

Then we learned - GASP - that there were other sports cars out there besides RX-7s, and when we bought them...240SX's, MR-2's, Supra's, Miata's, 300ZX's, and the occasional Lexus SC300, we learned how to modify those too. Drawing from what we learned with our rotaries, we took these various Japanese cars and put our spin on them, our interpretation of how a well-sorted heavily-tuned car should be. And the rest is history.
